Novak Djokovic: ‘It’s unfortunate for him’

on

Novak Djokovic’s season opened in this 2023 in the best possible way. The Serbian champion is competing this week in the Adelaide ATP 1 tournament and has reached the final of the tournament thanks to his victory today. Good performance from the winner of 21 Grand Slam titles, Nole, who easily beat Russian Daniil Medvedev, one of the toughest rivals on this surface. Victory in two straight sets with Nole the protagonist of a single chill towards the end of the first set: the Balkan champion stopped due to a flexor problem, alarming fans and insiders alike. A lot of concern, especially for the Australian Open, with Nole, however, getting back on track well and closing the record with a 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 24 minutes of play. In a press conference, the Serbian tennis player spoke about the situation and said the following about the player’s statements: “I will not talk too much about what happened, I will not go into details also because I think it is inappropriate. I don’t want to reveal too much, I felt pulls in the adductors area and I asked for a medical timeout. It’s not the first time things like this have happened to me, I hope I’ll be fine tomorrow. Every time I play better and I hit the ball well, Daniil doesn’t give you points and it hasn’t been easy.” In recent years, Novak Djokovic has established himself as one of the best in history, breaking record after record. With his victory over Medvedev, Nole has entered a particular classification in his own right and has become the fourth player with the most finals in tennis history.

Djokovic on Alcaraz’s withdrawal

In a press conference after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the Adelaide International 1 semifinal on Saturday, Novak Djokovic was asked to comment on Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal. “It’s not good for the tournament and tennis. He’s No. 1 in the world. Such a big name, big star in our sport already,” he said. “I’m sure that many of the fans are disappointed. I hope for his speedy recovery, whatever it is. I know he had an injury at the end of last season that was different from this one. It’s unfortunate for him. I hope he can recover and be back on the tour quickly. It happens that sometimes, even if you have a longer period of time without an official tournament, your body is not used to that kind of conditions and circumstances because as a tennis player, you’re constantly on the road, playing competitions. When you are out of that rhythm, body can react. You can have some injuries and difficulties when you come back to the tour and start pushing more and giving more intensity to the points,” he added.
