The left leg injury seems to be falling behind for Novak Djokovic. The 35-year-old Serbian tennis player acknowledged after his victory in the round of 16 of the Australian Open that he is physically better, just to face the final part of the event. “The truth is that I go day by day. I do many things with my team, we work on numerous aspects that allow me to be prepared to compete. It has been exhausting to see myself involved in so many treatments, machines and others, but it was what was necessary for my body to be ready”, commented the former number one in the world. “I have not felt any pain and I have moved perfectly on the court, which means that I am going in the right direction. I do not want to take anything for granted, but this game gives me many reasons to believe that I can achieve my goal here. I don’t know how the body will respond tomorrow, but what I felt today was fantastic”, he added at the press conference after his victory over Alex De Minaur. Djokovic acknowledged that the injury made him doubt even his participation in the tournament: “Six days ago I could not consider winning the title, I say it sincerely. My only goal was to try to get out on the track to compete, but this meeting changes everything. I feel good at the tennis level and the fact that I am the only player in the draw who knows what it is to win a Grand Slam gives me a lot of confidence. I have known how to deal with the pain and with the way in which this injury conditioned my movements.” Now Djokovic will face Tommy Paul after beating Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals, remaining just two steps away from title number 10 at Melbourne Park. Novak Djokovic is fed up with the accusations that he “faked” his injury at the 2023 Australian Open. “He left the doubts to those people, let them doubt,” he said. “Only my injuries are questioned. When other players get injured, they are the victims, but when it’s me, I’m faking it. It’s very interesting. I don’t feel like I have to prove anything to anyone. Right now I don’t care what people think or say.”

Mouratoglou on Nole Djokovic

Reflecting on Novak Djokovic’s supremacy over the rest of the players in the tournament, Mouratoglou said that the Serb is the best in the world when it comes to defending and counter-punching. “Novak is the best player in the world when it comes to defend and counter punch but how much an even better player when he is on top of the ball and dictating like in the 2023 @AustralianOpen,” the Frenchman wrote in his tweet.
