As noted, Rey Mysterio is replacing Rusev in the Tuwaiq Mountain Trophy Gauntlet Match at Thursday’s WWE Super ShowDown event in Saudi Arabia.
It was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the story going around is that Rusev is currently injured. However, Rusev has reportedly “backed out” of working the show.
There’s no word yet on what exactly led to Rusev being pulled, but he was still being advertised as of last night’s RAW before the replacement in Mysterio was announced.
Rusev has been in a contract dispute with WWE, but it wasn’t clear if that’s related to the Super ShowDown decision.
Mysterio will compete with R-Truth, Erick Rowan, AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley and WWE United States Champion Andrade for the Tuwaiq Mountain Trophy on Thursday at Super ShowDown.
