New Big 3 Alcaraz, Sinner and Rune have a major data in ATP Masters 1000

There are seven ATP Masters 1000 that have taken place so far in 2023, and the great protagonists have been the next Big 3: Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune. While waiting for the final in Cincinnati, several winners took turns in these events: from the confirmations of those who had already got their hands on those trophies to those who instead made their debut as the new ATP 1000 winner on the circuit.

If there were several winners, there is one constant that concerns these finals: in all seven, at least one of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune was present.

Signs that the Next Gen is establishing itself more and more on the circuit, overtaking what was the previous generation, represented by Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

Carlos Alcaraz opened the season with Indian Wells, where he beat Daniil Medvedev in the final.

In the second round of the ATP Masters 1000, it was the Russian tennis player who won, overcoming Jannik Sinner in the final. After the first part of the season on US hard courts, it was played on clay. In Madrid, Carlos Alcaraz managed to defend the title won the previous year by beating Jan-Lennard Struff in the final.

The ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo followed, where Holger Rune was defeated by the new winner Andrey Rublev. The Dane also returns to the final at the Internazionali d’Italia, where he was defeated again, but this time by another Russian, namely Daniil Medvedev.

Once the red clay was over, it was back to the American hard-courts. Here, another 1000 winner was crowned: Jannik Sinner beat Alex De Minaur and also became an event winner of this category. In Cincinnati, Carlos Alcaraz finds Novak Djokovic again after the Wimbledon final. The Spanish tennis player is the only one to have played in a final in 2023 on both surfaces: hard courts and red clay.

A domain not only in the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, but also in the ranking. Carlos Alcaraz holds the top of the ranking, defending it from Djokovic’s attacks. Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, reach their best ranking: the first is the new number 4 in the world, the second the new number 6 in the world.
