Nelly Korda now closed to Brooke Henderson

on

Thanks to a series of 5 birdies in 7 holes, world number 2 Nelly Korda closed the gap on Canadian Brooke M. Henderson on Saturday in Orlando. The French Céline Boutier has signed her best card of the week but remains at a distance in the second half of the classification.

Who will lift the first trophy of the year at the end of the 4th round on Sunday? The match, between Nelly Korda, Nasa Hataoka and Brooke M. Henderson, the three players best placed to win the inaugural LPGA tournament of the season, promises to be tight despite the 3 stroke lead that the Canadian still has, in lead since the 1st round on Thursday.

Nelly Korda, results

Relatively discreet for almost half of her third lap, which she started with a bogey, Nelly Korda finally found the right fuel to reduce the gap on her rival a little.

Her series of 5 birdies from 9th to 15th allowed her to get back to within 3 lengths of the winner of the Evian Championship last July.

For Céline Boutier, who went from the top 10 on Thursday to the second half of the ranking on Friday, the day on Saturday was marked by a beautiful successful eagle on the par 4 hole 14 of the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club where the French number 1 returned his shot.

A feat that allows him to return a card of 70, his best of the week, and to gain two places in the standings.

On the eve of the last round, Boutier is in 18th position, 12 shots from the lead and but just 4 shots from the players ranked in the top 10.

The LPGA (acronym for Ladies Professional Golf Association) was founded in 1950 on the initiative of thirteen players, with the aim of promoting women’s professional golf in the United States of America.[2] Its first president was Patty Berg. In that same circumstance it was decided to start a series of tournaments, on an annual basis, included in a single circuit known as the LPGA Tour.

The first official tournament of the LPGA Tour was the Tampa Women’s Open, held in January 1950 at the Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club in Tampa, where the amateur Polly Riley triumphed, surprisingly able to beat already professional and much more experienced players .
