Argentina captain Lionel Messi netted a hat-trick against Curacao on Tuesday, breaking the 100-goal mark for the world champions.

It took just 37 minutes for Messi to score a hat-trick in Argentina’s 7-0 win over Curacao on Tuesday. Thanks to these goals, the 35-year-old Parisian became the third player to surpass a century of goals at international level, joining Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo (122) and Iran’s Ali Daei (109). Messi is also the first South American player to reach this milestone.

He opened the scoring in the 20th minute and netted his 100th goal in characteristic style, receiving a pass into the box before getting rid of his defender and slotting the ball into the top corner.

Messi enjoyed himself on his return to Argentina, where the world champions celebrated their World Cup triumph on home soil with two friendlies. The captain netted his 800th career goal for Argentina in a recent friendly against Panama and has now joined the 100 club. Argentina’s training camp was also named after Messi in recognition for his phenomenal career.
