Marketa Vondrousova funnily tells why husband isn’t allowed to come for Wimbledon SF

Marketa Vondrousova jokingly said her husband won’t be coming for her Wimbledon semifinal because he “has work to do” and also “take care of our cat.” On Tuesday, 24-year-old Vondrousova defeated world No 4 Jessica Pegula 6-4 2-6 6-4 to reach her second Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon. After the match, Vondrousova was asked if her husband was with her at The All England Club.

“No, he’s at home,” Vondrousova responded.

When asked directly about the location, Vondrousova replied: “Prague.”

Vondrousova was then asked if her husband would be coming for her semifinal match against Elina Svitolina.

“We’ll see. I don’t know. I think for semis he won’t come. We’ll see what happens. He has to work. He has to take care of our cat. He has to stay home (laughter),” Vondrousova explained.

Vondrousova on facing Svitolina

When Vondrousova and Svitolina meet in the Wimbledon semifinal, it will be their sixth meeting. Going into the match, Vondrousova owns a 3-2 head-to-head record, having won their last three meetings. They haven’t played against each other since Vondrousova beat Svitolina in the Tokyo Olympics semifinal.

“We played a few times, so we know each other. I mean, she’s a wild card, but she’s playing like a top-10 player. It’s no difference for me. I think in semifinals you have to be ready for everything. It’s all in. We’ll see. I mean, she’s a great player. She’s playing so good. We’ll see. I think nothing changes if she’s seeded or she is a wild card. For me, it’s the same thing,” Vondrousova said.

Czech Vondrousova was also asked about her relationship with Svitolina.

“We chat a bit on Instagram. Actually, we didn’t see each other much. But yeah, I’m with her all the way. She’s incredible. I think she’s incredible with everything. She’s fighting so much for everything. Now she’s just playing amazing tennis also. She’s a super woman, I think (smiling),” Vondrousova said.
