Mark Henry Talks Shooting Down “Silverback” Moniker, Says Vince McMahon Killed It As Soon As He Asked

on

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently spoke with djvlad to talk all things pro-wrestling. Most notable from the interview was Henry recalling a time that WWE creative were planning on presenting him as the “Silverback,” a nickname the World’s Strongest Man did not appreciate.

I said to the writers, ‘You will not refer to this black man as a Silverback. I am not a primate,’ and the sh*t stopped. Well Vince [McMahon] was the one like, ‘Hey, if you feel that way, tell them that’s not what you want to be portrayed as,’ and I said, ‘Well I don’t want to be portrayed as that.’ He said, ‘Okay, it’s killed,’ and I went from being a Silverback to being Mark Henry, The Strongest Man In The World and primarily because, I took time to stop pro wrestling and to go back and compete against the strongest men in the world to validate the fact that I was the world’s strongest man, not the world’s strongest primate
