on

We’re just days out from 2022’s Smash finale and the Redemption Rumble, but we’re already approaching the first Major of the year. Let’s Make Big Moves 2023 looks set to kick off Smash’s 2023 with a bang, bringing the best players together to compete for the first title of the new year.

Despite all the problems with Smash World Tour and Nintendo late last year, we’ve not exactly had a huge wait to get things started again. There’s a huge tournament on the very first weekend of January. Let’s Make Big Moves 2023 is more than just the first on the calendar though, this looks set to be a huge event.

Let’s Make Big Moves 2023

Let’s Make Big Moves 2023 is kicking of the Ultimate season for 2023. This is an event being held in New York, taking place over January 6-8. It’s being organized by Even Matchup Gaming, they’re a huge organizer who has put together loads of events in every game of Smash. Recently, they’ve been behind similar events like 2022’s Let’s Make Moves Miami.

It’s going to have Ultimate Singles, Doubles, and even a Squad Strike section. This is just an Ultimate event though. Melee isn’t going to be part of it. The games will be played in a standard format for Smash, competitors fight through pools, before entering a full bracket on Sunday with finals leading all the way down to the Top 8. Doubles and Crew Brackets will be taking place on Friday before Singles dominated the full weekend.

The event has a prize pool of $11,520 for the Singles side of it. This is pretty decent for such an early tournament. Even Doubles has a decent prize with $2,960 in total there. Let’s Make Moves Miami has some of the best players attending too, we may even get to see some rematches from the climatic events in 2022.

Sparg0, MKLeo, Tweek and More at Let’s Make Big Moves

There are loads of great players attending including most of the best Ultimate players in the last year. Some of the more exciting attendees include Sparg0. He went head-to-head with MKLeo last year, taking a break eventually but returning to win first place at both the Scuffed World Tour and Mainstage 2022. This pretty much set him up as the winner for the year, so he’s looking strong in the new year. Tweek will also be attending off his second-place finish at the Scuffed World Tour.

MKLeo dominated last season. He stuttered a little at the last hurdle, getting knocked out of the Scuffed World Tour. Alhough, MKLeo still took home way home more major wins than anyone else. Heading into Let’s Make Big Moves 2023, he might be making a comeback from those last two.

Those are some of the clearest players to watch heading in, but this is a huge stacked roster. Loads of players are attending to prove their worth in 2023’s first tournament. These include some other big names like Sonix, Glutonny, and Onin.

Let’s Make Big Moves 202 is bringing all of these huge players together. You can catch the action on the official stream over the weekend.
