Jessica Pegula reveals real truth in pregnancy rumors in three-word message

American tennis star Jessica Pegula took to Instagram to share that she is back on the practice court and also shut down rumors that she is pregnant.

Pegula, ranked at No. 5 in the world, appeared in three events in January before withdrawing from this month’s WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha and Dubai. When Pegula’s withdrawal from Doha and Dubai was announced, a neck injury was cited as the reason.

But some tennis fans didn’t fully believe it, with some speculating if pregnancy could be the reason for Pegula’s Middle East swing absence.

“Not pregnant. Lol,” Pegula captioned her Instagram Story posted from the practice court.

Pegila plays against next week

After withdrawing from Doha and Dubai, the news came out that Pegula signed up to play at the San Diego Open – a WTA 500 tournament that kicks off on February 26th.

Pegula, who turns 30 on Saturday, is set for her second San Diego appearance. In her first and lone San Diego appearance that came in 2022, Pegula made the semifinal before losing to Iga Swiatek.

In this year’s San Diego tournament edition, Pegula will be the top seed and also the only top-10 player participating in the tournament. Karolina Muchova, the world No. 10 and 2023 French Open finalist, was also scheduled to compete in San Diego but she is out of the tournament after undergoing wrist surgery this week.

Although Pegula is coming off an injury period and a disappointing Australian Open second-round loss to Clara Burel, there is no doubt that she will be among the top favorites for the San Diego title.

For Pegula, doing well in San Diego and potentially winning the title could kickstart her season, just in time before the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami.

It remains to be seen how will Pegula look in her first tournament since the Australian Open and if she can make another deep San Diego run.
