Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner played an exciting match at the China Open in Beijing. The Italian beat his Spanish rival in straight sets, with the final result of 7-6 6-1 in less than two hours of play, in a match that ultimately saw Jannik in total control.
There was concern given the stomach problems in the match against Grigor Dimitrov but Jannik played a very high level performance, suffering only at the beginning of the match but recovering and putting on a show. First set lasted an hour and fifteen minutes with the Italian raising his level in the key moment of the match, a couple of shots and a set point played in a magical way.
A service that sometimes needs reviewing but today it was quite good and a magnificent return, a world top. Second set one-sided with Alcaraz evidently out of control and Sinner in control. The Spaniard was unable to find the right countermeasures and Jannik easily closed the second and decisive set.
Now in the final Sinner will find his worst nightmare, Daniil Medvedev who beat him six times out of six in the previous head-to-heads. In any case, from Monday Sinner enters the history of Italian tennis and reaches his Best Ranking.
He has surpassed Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas and will be number 4 in the world from Monday.
Here are some of the most spectacular points of the match, shared on Instagram by Tennis TV:

Sinner’s words at the press conference
In the press conference after the victory over Alcaraz, the Italian explained: “It was certainly one of the best matches played in my career. I would say that every match against Carlos Alcaraz is tough. We always show a lot of respect towards each other and we both play great. When we face each other, we always try to push ourselves to the limit.
Today I played slightly better in the important moments of the match. The first set was like a roller coaster, I tried to stay there mentally and I’m obviously very happy with my performance. The second set ended 6-1, it’s true, but he had many chances. I executed the game plan decided with my team really well. I won’t say exactly what we said before the game, but we forced ourselves to be aggressive.
When he has a lot of time to hit the ball, he plays really well. You know you need to change and fix some things; he did it too since our last meeting. We will also change something the next time we compete. It was our seventh match, we get along well. This makes things, for both of us, simpler and more complex at the same time. Today was my day. We’ll see what happens now, I’m focused on the final.”
