Jannik Sinner after the Toronto victory: “I handled the pressure”

Jannik Sinner deservedly triumphed in the final of the National Bank Open, ATP Master 1000 played in Toronto.

The Italian tennis player, satisfied and happy for the first great and prestigious affirmation of his career, immediately analyzed what happened in the interview given on the court for the ATP Tour and during the award ceremony for the delivery of the title.

The Italian explained: “This victory means a lot, it’s a great result that I can share with the people close to me, the whole team and even those who aren’t here. We’re working hard and these results make us hungry to work harder more.

Pressure? I liked how I handled this situation, facing each opponent with the right concentration. I felt the pressure but I think I handled it well and I think I treated everyone with the right amount of respect. This tournament will always remain in my heart.

Thanks to my team, unfortunately not everyone is here. You are the people who are with me every day and have great faith in me. Darren (Cahill – ed.) still needs to give me some golf tips: we’ll practice better from Monday!”

The 21-year-old received massive applause from the large Canadian crowd in the stands.

There was no shortage of nice words from the Italian towards Alex De Minaur, good at earning the opportunity to play this first ATP Masters 1000 final but who could do little against the new number 6 in the ATP ranking: “Congratulations on your beautiful week. You’re a good person, never mind double lost Monday! It’s nice to be on the pitch with you, you work a lot and we often train in Monaco. All the best to get into the top 10 soon.”

Jannik is also the first Italian ever to win a Masters 1000 title on hard courts: he succeeded on the third occasion, after the two finals lost in Miami in 2021 and 2023.

A lot of confidence but it’s already time to get back on the pitch. With fewer expectations and pressures (perhaps), Sinner will fly to Cincinnati for another prestigious event, the last one before the US Open.
