This summer, the leaders of Olympique Lyonnais gave a smile to their supporters by bringing back former glories in decline in their respective clubs. Alexandre Lacazette (ex-Arsenal) and Corentin Tolisso (ex-Bayern Munich) thus returned to the Rhône when they were out of contract with their team. However, this has not helped the Lyonnais to get their heads above water, the residents of Groupama Stadium currently pointing to a worrying ninth place with only 32 points obtained in 22 league games. Despite this, other elders of the house would dream of coming again to put their suitcases down.

“Everyone knows that I love this club”

This is particularly the case of Clément Grenier, a pure product of the Lyon formation, who left the club in 2017 to join AS Roma, before chaining inconclusive experiences at Guingamp, Rennes, to finally land in Mallorca, where he took part in 17 meetings in all competitions this year. In an interview given to RMC, the 32-year-old midfielder clearly expressed his wish to return one day to play at Groupama Stadium: “It would be wonderful. At 32, you still have to have dreams. It would be wonderful to come back to Lyon. My heart is Lyonnais, and everyone knows that I love this club. And of course that I feel very good physically, explained the former French international. You never know… But I don’t take my head with that. I am focused on my season in Mallorca and on maintaining it. We have eighteen games left to play hard. I feel very good here with my family. We’ll see what happens in the future.” The message is clear.

To sum up

Clément Grenier, the former Olympique Lyonnais midfielder who now plays for Mallorca, has expressed his desire to return to the Rhône. The player is still under contract until June 2024 in La Liga.
