The FA Cup, dean of competitions, resumed its rights this weekend. After qualifying from Leicester and Leeds earlier in the day, Southampton also held their ground, Fulham did not. The Saints won against Blackpool (2-1), resident of Championhsip, relying on their Frenchies. The former Brest player, Romain Perraud, notably offered himself a double. The 25-year-old side opened the scoring with a powerful shot from 25 meters (22nd), before adding to the score in the second half with a decisive pass from the former Bordeaux player, Sekou Mara (62nd). The young Charlie Patino, on loan from Arsenal, had reduced the gap at the end of the match (67th), but not enough to join the 1/8th finals.

In the other meeting at 4:00 p.m., Fulham was however unable to impose its law on Sunderland, and was even very scared in added time. Picked cold from the 6th minute of play by Jack Clarke, the Cottagers were able to come back to score on the hour mark thanks to a solo number from Tom Cairney, well served at the start by Layvin Kurzawa. Despite Mitrovic’s huge situation at the end of the game, Marco Silva’s players were unable to find the resources to win, and could even have left the competition if the young Christoper Rigg (15) had not been flagged for offside in added time. The two teams will have to replay the match to try to climb into the 1/8th finals.
