Iga Swiatek: “It’s tough in Madrid, here are the reasons

on

The world number one Iga Swiatek is one of the most awaited tennis players in Madrid and she is obviously aiming for the final victory. A tournament that she often didn’t smile at despite the great results on clay in the past.

Iga won without worries against the lucky loser Julia Grabner and now she will face the American Bernarda Pera in the round of 32, in a very interesting match. At the press conference, the Pole gave her impressions of her performance in the Spanish capital.

Iga said: “I needed several matches to be able to adapt to the conditions, the training courts here are more like hard-courts than clay while the central court is more like the courts we find at the Roland Garros. So far I have found very lively and aggressive opponents and it is important to get used to these courts.”

Iga Swiatek on her future

The Polish tennis player continued: “Coming from Stuttgart it’s always nice to have a few more days to get used to these courts and spend quiet days. You must always be ready to play these tournaments. When tournaments are shorter it is easier to prepare for tournaments and be more rested.

Making an entire 52-week season work perfectly is really difficult, I don’t know how it will be in the future but honestly I wish I had more time and space in the transition maybe between indoor and outdoor tournaments, otherwise it’s difficult.

Is it better to play during the day or at night? It doesn’t matter when you play or when you train, even when I play during the day I tend to have night sessions where I train. I think it’s important to spend as many hours on the pitch as possible. I prefer to be more comfortable and perhaps paradoxically it is better or more comfortable for me to play at night.”

In the Round of 16, the Pole could face the number 16 seed Alexandrova while she intrigues and not a little fans the eventual Quarterfinals against Barbora Krejcikova.

Iga still remains the favorite or at least one of the favorites to win the tournament.
