Henrik Stenson is confident about the verdict

Present this week in Abu Dhabi for the first tournament of the calendar year on the DP World Tour, Henrik Stenson was confident about the verdict handed down in the first days of February by a court in Great Britain in the dispute between the European tour for exiled players in 2022 on LIV Golf.

Henrik Stenson, results

Author of a very good card of 68 (-4) which temporarily places him in the top 15 of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship after 18 holes, Henrik Stenson was questioned at the end of the recording on the future within the DP World Tour of golfers who, like him, have decided to join LIV Golf and its millions of dollars. The Scandinavian would have, as such, pocketed the modest sum of 50 million dollars!

Next February 6 – and for a period of five days – the hearing will begin before the judges in Great Britain between certain players who are members of the European circuit exiled on the LIV Golf and the DP World Tour. The challenge will be whether or not they will be able to evolve as they wish on the European Tour. And thus claim to accumulate world points.

To this question, the Swedish golfer, winner of The Open in 2016 at Royal Troon but also short-lived captain of the European Ryder Cup 2023 team before being replaced by the Englishman Luke Donald, wants to be optimistic.

“I’m pretty confident,” he replied. The R&A recently announced that LIV players would be eligible for the next British Open (at Royal Liverpool) and more recently the Augusta National indicated that all qualified LIV players could play in the next Masters. »

“Grand Slam tournaments want to bring together the best players in the world,” he continues. And that’s what we want too. As often as possible. This has never really been the case because players play on different circuits around the world. These are the big meetings that bring together the most players possible because they are the ones that produce the best golf. That’s what I think will make the difference…”
