Haaland comes out of silence after his quintuplet

Author Tuesday evening of a quintuple against RB Leipzig (7-0), in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League, the Norwegian striker of Manchester City Erling Haaland reacted to his resounding feat.

The third in history

Erling Haaland made Champions League history yesterday. The Norwegian striker from Manchester City has become the third player to achieve the performance of scoring five goals in the same C1 match, a feat achieved against the German club RB Leipzig in the knockout stages of the Champions League (7- 0), at the Etihad Stadium. Before him, only Luiz Adriano – with Shakhtar Donetsk in October 2014 – and Lionel Messi – with FC Barcelona in March 2012 – had scored a quintuple in the Champions League. An anthology performance which allows the former member of Borussia Dortmund to bring his total to 39 goals in 36 games in all competitions since the start of the 2022-2023 season.

“I would have liked to score more”

After the meeting, the Leeds native confided his reaction to the microphone of BT Sports. The Citizens goleador was obviously over the moon after his feat. “I feel really, really good. It’s incredible. To score five goals and win 7-0 at home is great. I don’t remember the goals, I only shoot, I don’t think! I am happy. I marked them all. We scored a lot of goals. We created a lot of situations, with a clean sheet. We have to be happy and continue like this.”

Asked about his replacement by Argentinian striker Julian Alvarez in the 63rd minute of play, Erling Haaland replied to his coach Josep Guardiola, without depriving himself of addressing him a small tackle in complete relaxation. “I would have liked to play and score more. I would have liked to stay on the pitch, but I’m happy. I said to him, I would have liked to score a double hat-trick but what can we do? Whatever, his evening and that of Manchester City will be remembered for a long time.
