Greg Rusedski seemingly enjoyed very much the Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek final in Madrid as the British tennis legend is looking forward to seeing more big matches between the two currently top-ranked WTA players.
Sabalenka, 25, defeated 21-year-old Swiatek 6-3 3-6 6-3 to win her second Madrid title.
Clay is Swiatek’s favorite surface, while Sabalenka prefers faster surfaces.
Still, Sabalenka figured out a way to beat Swiatek in the final of a clay WTA 1000 tournament.
Last year, Swiatek pretty much dominated every head-to-head.
But this year, it’s a different story as Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina have had success against Swiatek.
“How good was Sabalenka yesterday? It is great to finally have a women’s rivalry we can look forward too? Meeting back-to-back weeks. Who do think will finish number 1 at the end of the season?” Rusedski tweeted.

Rusedski enjoys the Sabalenka-Swiatek rivalry
Sabalenka and Swiatek have now met in back-to-back finals.
Two weeks earlier, Swiatek defeated Sabalenka in the Stuttgart final.
After winning her Madrid semifinal match, Sabalenka admitted she wanted “revenge” against Swiatek at Caja Magica.
Sabalenka then went out and got the job done against Swiatek in the Madrid final.
After the final, Sabalenka reflected on her rivalry with Swiatek and what it brings to the table.
“I think that’s something amazing. I think women’s tennis needs this kind of consistency to see world No 1 and world No 2 facing in the finals. It’s more enjoyable for fans to watch and it’s more intense. I’m not saying that it’s not intense with the rest of the players anyway. If a player reach the final, it means that he’s in a good shape and it’s going to be tough. But I think when people see these kind of finals, it makes them want to see it, you know, like want to see this battle. That’s something amazing, and hopefully we can keep doing what we are doing this season,” Sabalenka said after meeting Swiatek in the Madrid final.
