New York Giants headlines for Friday

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Julian Love: Nick Sirianni getting ‘free ride’ as Eagles coach

Julian Love caused quite a stir yesterday with his remarks about the Eagle and the head coach Nick Sirianni.

The impending New York Giants’ free agent did not withhold punches in his appearance on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football that he would double down on later in the day.

Asked by Peter Schrager how he felt about Sirianni’s sideline antics during the Eagles’ 38-7 Divisional Round victory over the Giants, Love replied that he “don’t like it” and that Sirianni was “in for a free ride right now” due to the deep roster of the Eagles.

Love also declared that Sirianni was a “great coach” because he wasn’t “getting in the way of his team.”

While Eagle players such took exception to the remarks—DE Brandon Graham said “people always got something to say when they’re at home…A lot of people just mad because of what happened this season” and DT Javon Hargrave added “that’s just dumb. That’s just stupid” — Love didn’t back down later that day.

Until the New York Giants know the financial investment they must make to keep Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, all other expenditures are difficult to project.

Takeaways from GM Joe Schoen at Senior Bowl | Giants.com

“We’re all on the same page in terms of what we’re looking for, the process moving forward. We’ve now been through a year cycle and have done everything together for 365 days. And everybody knows the expectations. So, I think we’re in much better shape this year.”

Giants great Eli Manning: Odell Beckham Jr. ‘will make a team better’ | USAToday.com

“I think it’s interesting. I think a lot of it is just trying to see his health and I think probably why it didn’t work out this year, from what I heard, is that he wasn’t healthy enough to come in and play in the playoffs. I think that’s why it got pushed back and didn’t work out this year.

“I’m sure he’ll get healthy in the offseason. He is a guy who can make some plays and can win some one-on-one matchups and can make those explosive big plays in the passing games. So he’s a great talent and I think somebody will come after him and sign him. He will make a team better.”

Giants mock draft reaction: Why a WR like Quentin Johnston could be a perfect fit | The Athletic

Wide receiver is certainly a logical position to target, and Johnston could provide a jolt to a passing offense that lacked big-play ability. He profiles as an upgrade over Darius Slayton, who is set to become a free agent after a bounce-back fourth season.

If the Giants intend to build around quarterback Daniel Jones, they’ll need to upgrade his supporting cast. They’ll also need to be budget-conscious, so drafting a wide receiver like Johnston in the first round makes a lot of sense.
