Francesco Molinari and Migliozzi, two leaders

on

It’s Grand’Italia in the United Arab Emirates, where Francesco Molinari (67 67) and Guido Migliozzi (65 69), with a total of 134 (-10) shots, share the top spot in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at half-time of golf. In the second round of the first event of the 2023 Rolex Series, one of the most important seasonal tournaments of the DP World Tour, no one was able to keep up with the pace of the two Azzurri.

Francesco Molinari, results

Migliozzi from Vicenza recovered from second position, making four birdies (including three consecutive in the final, between the 16th and 18th hole) and a bogey. While Chicco Molinari, who started from hole 10, scored two birdies, a double bogey (at 16) and a bogey in the first nine holes played. Then, in the second part of the race, he kicked off an authentic show supported by seven birdies that allowed him to move from fifth to first position.

It’s a Ryder Cup format Italy, the one that is putting itself on display on the course of the Yas Links (par 72), where the two blues in the middle of the race have a lead over the Australian Jason Scrivener, 3/o with 135 (-9).

This is the message sent by Molinari and Migliozzi towards the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, with the two Italians aiming to win a place in the Europe team led by Luke Donald. In the lead in Abu Dhabi at the end of the opening 18 holes of the competition, Donald with a partial of 75 (+3) out of a total of 139 (-5), slipped to 22nd position. Same score as the Englishman, among others, for Edoardo Molinari (67 72) who will be among his vice-captains at ‘Marco Simone’, in the match against the USA scheduled from 29 September to 1 October.

“I am very satisfied, I made a few more mistakes than in the first round. I hope, in the next two rounds, to play even better and more regularly. On this course, mistakes are not forgiven but I want to think about the positive things. In the second part of the match I played really well, but there is still a long way to go”, concluded Chicco Molinari.

“I didn’t start in the best way, despite this I continued to fight hole after hole. The turning point came at the 15th, where I closed the hole in par thanks to a great ‘putt’ that gave me the energy in the final. The last three ‘hole’ plays were sensational and characterized by great shots, so I’m very satisfied. I was looking at the leaderboard and seeing Chicco Molinari in the lead stimulated me, he’s our captain”, Migliozzi’s satisfaction.

After their success in the Hero Cup – where the Continental European team defeated Tommy Fleetwood’s Great Britain & Ireland – Migliozzi and Francesco Molinari, both unbeaten in that confrontation, continue to impress. And in the United Arab Emirates they are dreaming of the feat in an appointment that is giving away 9 million dollars (with the first coin of 1,530,000). (
