Carlos Alcaraz managed to defend the title. At the Barcelona Open, the Spanish tennis player is the author of a back-to-back beating Spanish Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final: 6-4, 6-3 was the final result.

A clear victory for the conquest of the ninth title of his career, the first on clay this season, a few days before the start of the Mutua Madrid Open, another tournament where he is the holder of the title.

A success that was celebrated by Juan Carlos Ferrero, coach of Carlos Alcaraz.

“Winning a tournament is always a reason for joy and even more here at home, in front of all your people. As I already told him, he was born to play this type of match, we train to play this type of match. He was a bit nervous, like everyone, but he performed very well on the pitch, very organized tactically. It was his best match of the week. The pressure is on, but we as a team try to give him peace of mind. With Carlos we always think big,” said the former number one at RTVE.

Carlos Alcaraz has great goals to achieve

The Spanish coach spoke of a nervousness, of tension of the Slam champion of Murcia, which however does not transpire from the press conferences of Carlos Alcaraz.

In fact, the Spanish tennis player aims high and looks not only to Madrid and Rome, but to Paris.

He told: “There is still the Roland Garros. Anything can happen in these two tournaments, in these weeks. The Roland Garros is a clear short-term goal. It’s a tournament I really want to win, but right now we’re focused on Madrid and Rome. Winning the tournament here in Barcelona gives you extra confidence for what’s to come.”

In Madrid he is seeded first, while for Rome and Paris he will have to wait to understand the physical conditions of Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz is getting great results also in 2023: in Madrid, Rome and Paris he will be the main favourite.
