Fabio Fognini: “I have a problem with my left foot”

on

Fabio Fognini announced through a message released on social media, late in the morning of Sunday 22 January, that he had carried out accurate tests, which confirmed a serious injury to the lower limbs.

In fact, the Italian tennis player communicated to all the Italian fans and supporters: “This winter I worked hard to get back to my best form. Unfortunately in Melbourne I wasn’t able to compete at 100% of my ability due to some problems with my left foot.”

This is what the player underlined, then clearly explained his current situation: “Once I returned to Italy I did further tests and the doctors found an intra-articular fracture of the phalanx. I will try to recover and get back in shape as soon as possible.”

Fognini has to face a truly nightmare start to the 2023 season. Fabio also published the results of the exams, posting a very clear photo.

Fognini risks collapsing in the ranking

The Italian made up for two defeats in the 2023 edition of the Australian Open, immediately leaving the scene and immediately leaving Oceania to return to Europe.

Fabio was unable to fight in his debut singles match against home Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, who clearly defeated him with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. During the match and at the end, Fognini was also accused of tanking, the injury somewhat confirms how Fognini was not in such optimal conditions to play.

The same fate happened in doubles, in which together with Simone Bolelli he lost his debut match against the French couple made up of Fabien Reboul and Sadio Doumbia.

The Italian will now have to recover the best physical shape to return competitive in the ATP circuit: news on his conditions will be expected in the next few days or weeks to understand if he will still be able to play some tournaments on hard courts or will be seen on the field directly on clay.
