easy winner of Brest, Lens slips into the round of 16

Stade Brestois hosted RC Lens at the Francis – Le Blé stadium for the 16th round of the Coupe de France. For this match, Franck Haise remained faithful to his 3-4-2-1 with Alexis Claude-Maurice and Adrien Thomasson in support of Wesley Saïd while the Bretons presented themselves in 4-3-3 with Jérémy Le Douaron, Franck Honorat and Islam Slimani. While the kick-off was delayed by a few minutes, the fault of a thick smoke of smoke which was slow to dissipate and therefore hindered the visibility of the actors of this meeting, Seko Fofana’s teammates immediately showed themselves to be the most dangerous in attack and they even scored on the first hot situation of this game. A few minutes later, the number 9 of Stade Brestois made the difference again and crossed perfectly for Islam Slimani who came to place an unstoppable header for the goalkeeper Lensois (19th, 1-1). Despite this equalizer, the Sang et Or found the necessary resources to get back into the fight and regain the advantage at the half-hour mark. On a free kick from the left side by Alexis Claude-Maurice, Facundo Medina took the ball from the header from the penalty spot and the Argentine defender took advantage of the poor outing of his compatriot, Joaquín Blazquez, to restore the advantage to his team (30th, 2-1).

RC Lens finds the 8th finals

Always very enterprising, the Lensois continued to put pressure on the Brest defense. Shortly before the return of the actors of this meeting to the locker room, the last scorer turned into a passer to give a little more width to the score. Indeed, Facundo Medina worked his cross so that he arrived on Adrien Thomasson, free of any marking. The latter could adjust the Stade Brestois goalkeeper with a clear header from the penalty spot (38th, 3-1). On the hour mark, Adrien Thomasson took advantage of the opposing defensive widths to place his head after a cross from the Colombian piston of RC Lens but the Brest goalkeeper made the parade (61st).

The dolphin of Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 continued to hunker down to better project himself in attack but the opportunities were rare. As the rhythm of the match fell, the referee whistled three times to send the players back to the locker room. Thanks to this victory, RC Lens continues its path in the Coupe de France and will see the 8th finals. The end of the season promises to be very interesting for the Northerners. For its part, Stade Brestois is therefore eliminated and can concentrate on the championship to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
