A decision destined to displease the former president of the United States who has never made a secret of dreaming of being able to host the Open in his club. The only solution for Trump, suggests the British newspaper, is the transfer of ownership of Turnberry, so as to defuse security concerns due to potential protests, easily predictable if Trump were somehow attributable and associated with the tournament.

Four editions of the British tournament have been held in Turnberry, including that of 2009, before the purchase of Trump, which took place in 2014 for 60 million dollars. During Trump’s last visit, last May, his son Eric had declared that significant capital had been invested in the club, following the directives of the general manager of the R&A, Peter Dawson, to make the structure as compliant as possible with Open standards . Money that obviously wasn’t enough to convince the organizing committee to release the facility’s suitability
