The Dallas Cowboys have acquired 2019 Defensive Player of the Year cornerback Stephon Gilmore in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Dallas will send a compensatory fifth-round pick to Indianapolis in exchange for Gilmore.

The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year has played for two teams since leaving the New England Patriots. Gilmore has spent time in Carolina and Indianapolis since leaving. He started 16 games for the Colts in 2022, recording 10 pass breakups and two interceptions on 54.9% completion percentage allowed.

Dallas finished with the second-best defense by DVOA in 2022. The Cowboys’ -11.3% defensive passing DVOA was third-best in the league last season. Gilmore will play alongside Trevon Diggs, who is one year removed from his first-ever First-Team All-Pro nomination.
