During his appearance on “The Herd”, C.M. Punk discussed his desire to be critical of the WWE product when necessary, as well as when he realized that he had connected with the fans. Here are the highlights:
On Whether He Cares About Upsetting WWE Brass:
I’m not concerned about it. That’s honestly the appeal of the job. “We’re gonna pay you to be an analyst, you get to critique the old place you worked at.” I’m not here to be a spoiler, or pour gasoline on anything and set it on fire, deep down I love pro wrestling as a kid and I think it could be better. I always voiced my concerns while I worked there, and now I can’t get in trouble for it.
On How He Feels About The WWE Women:
The women are absolutely killing it.
On The Toll Of The WWE Schedule:
I needed an emotional, physical, spiritual [break]. I was a shell of myself and I realized that the little time at home I did get, I couldn’t get out of bed … I debuted in 2006 and didn’t get a break until I left.
On How He Feels About His Fame:
I can’t go to Starbucks without being asked for an autograph or picture. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s situational. It has afforded me this lifestyle. You have to take the bad with the good.
On His Training Regiment:
You fly into a city, you get your own rental car, you go directly to a gym, you workout, you do the show, you pack up, go to the next town, check into a hotel, wake up, go to a gym. That was my schedule.
On When He Knew He Had Connected With The Fans:
My first pay-per-view, November 2006. I made my debut at Survivor Series, I was in the ring with the Hardy Boys, Triple H and Shawn Michaels and 18,000 people in Philadelphia were chanting for me. I looked right at Triple H and said “I’m screwed.” I knew they weren’t going to like this. It was going to hurt me more than it helped, but it was a cool moment.
