Bianca Andreescu reveals her wish, how Iga Swiatek’s presence impacts her

on

Former world No 4 Bianca Andreescu is hoping to avoid serious injuries in 2023 as she would like to finally be able to play for a full year.

Andreescu, 22, didn’t play at all in 2020 while in 2021 she appeared in a total of 13 tournaments.

Last year, Andreescu kicked off her season in April and again competed in just 13 tournaments – she did also represent Canada at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

Now, 2019 US Open champion Andreescu is praying for good health and more Grand Slam success.

Also, 46th-ranked Andreescu is targeting a top-10 return.

“Another Grand Slam would be nice, another 1000, staying healthy, playing the whole year basically. Because I don’t think I’ve had like a full, full year of playing all the tournaments I wanted to. I think that should be number one right now. And then cracking the Top 10 again because I do believe that I’m at that level,” Andreescu told the WTA Tour website.

Andreescu on Swiatek: I’m trying to get up there, beat that

After winning the US Open as a teenager in 2019, Andreescu started experiencing problems with injuries and she also took a break to address her mental health.

Swiatek, who captured her first Grand Slam title at the 2020 French Open, is 21 and already a three-time Grand Slam champion.

22-year-old Andreescu has noticed Swiatek’s success and admits she is aiming to also do great things.

“The competition definitely inspires me and motivates me even more. Seeing Iga, she’s younger than me and has three Grand Slams. I’m trying to get up there, I’m trying to beat that. But in like a friendly way. Because it’s like, and I actually heard this from a few players, where I kind of inspired them in 2019. So now it’s like the roles are reversed, which I really like,” Andreescu said.

Meanwhile, Andreescu kicked off her 2022 season at the Adelaide International.

In the first round, Andreescu recovered from a set and a break down to beat Garbine Muguruza 0-6 7-6 (3) 6-1.
