As reported by the Auburn University website, the Tigers men’s tennis faces the first SEC road test of the season to play this afternoon against Mississippi, in Starkville. The Tigers will then remain on the road to face Tulane on Sunday.
Today’s game against Mississippi State in Starkville will begin at 3:00 PM. CT at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center. Live stats and live stream video of the match are available at hailstate.com. The Bulldogs currently hold a 12-2 overall record and a perfect 10-0 record in home games. Like Auburn, Mississippi State split their conference opening weekend by defeating No. 19 Florida at home on Thursday and falling to No. 59 Ole Miss on the road.
Tulane, who finished No. 41 in Tuesday’s ITA standings, currently has a 6-5 record and has won their last three games in a row. The only singles player ranked for the Green Wave is Fynn Kuenkler, who is ranked #80, currently holds a 4-6 doubles singles record. Junior Rafael de Alba holds the team’s best singles record at 7-2 and has five consecutive singles hits.
Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds explained: “This weekend is the defining weekend in my eyes of how the season is going to go. We’re playing against a Mississippi State team in their place that’s a tough place to play, they have a big crowd. They’re very supportive of their team. It’s in their culture. They won’t give you free points, and from one to six, they’ll bite your ankles all day. Fast forward to Tulane, which is another tough place to play. It will be hot and wet and it’s a different team than the last two years. They just won against MTSU on the road. They are a very talented team and we beat them twice last year, so they want to come back and get revenge.”
