Auburn men’s team defeated by Wke Forest at the ITA Kickoff Weekend

Auburn University men’s tennis team suffered their first loss of the season against Wake Forest, in the first game of the ITA Kickoff Weekend, with a final score of 4-0. Tigers have an opportunity to bounce back today in Winston-Salem. Auburn will face No. 19 Duke, who lost to Middle Tennessee earlier in the day.

As reported by the Auburn University website, two of Auburn’s doubles teams came from behind to force a tie by seven points, but Tyler Stice and Alejandro Moreno ultimately lost the game 7-6 (7-5). The doubles match between Finn Murgett and Raul Dobai against Juan Lopez de Azcona and Filippo Moroni, with the tie locked at 6-6, was suspended as Wake Forest reclaimed the doubles point.
 
Murgett had some success against Wake Forest’s Matthew Thompson in singles-court five, knocking out Thompson 6-0 in the first set. Murgett lost the second set 7-5 to force a third set, but the match was ultimately left unfinished. Moreno also took his first set over Luciano Tacchi 7-5 and was headed to the third set when the match concluded. Auburn’s Will Nolan, Jan Galka, and Billy Blaydes all struggled in singles play, as they each lost the first two sets in each of their respective matches.
