Atlético Madrid would like to quickly complete the signing of Memphis Depay. However, Barça would pose a problem, wishing to recover money on his departure. The Colchoneros would thus put pressure on the blaugrana formation.
According to information gathered by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Atlético Madrid is making Memphis Depay its priority to strengthen its attack, following the departures of Joao Felix and Matheus Cunha. The Madrid team would like to quickly complete the operation, in order to prevent any overbidding from the English club. The Rojiblancos would also like to improve Diego Simeone’s squad as soon as possible, which is currently weakened.
Depay favorable to a departure
The soap opera linked to the departure of Memphis Depay has been going on since the summer. Pushed out last August, a year after his arrival, the Dutchman ultimately did not leave. He has a contract running until June 2023, which implies that he is free to negotiate with the clubs he wants since January. The player would have validated the idea of a departure for Atlético Madrid this winter. But the condition for the operation to be concluded seems to be linked to the fact that the Barcelonans are not too greedy on his transfer. However, the Blaugrana leaders, with their backs to the wall regarding their finances, obviously want to obtain compensation for his departure.
As a reminder, Barça recruited Memphis Depay at the end of his contract with OL, in 2021. The profile of the 28-year-old player does not please Xavi, who has not used him much in recent months (8 appearances since the start of the season). The striker also suffered a thigh glitch that kept him away from the field for several months.
Memphis Depay’s name has also been associated with clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United in recent months. However, the two formations do not seem to have taken action to recruit him.
