For his return to Atletico Madrid, Antoine Griezmann had had a difficult season, marked by injuries and playing time limited to 30 minutes due to disagreements between Barça and the Madrid club on his option to buy. This year, the native of Macon has returned to his best level and regained the place he deserves within the Colchoneros.
Already author of 12 goals and 10 assists with Atleti in all competitions, the Frenchman does not want to stop on such a good path, whether individually or collectively, as he confided to DAZN : “I need to win things, to be a very important player, to go down in the history of the club, to try to catch up with Luis Aragonés at the number of goals (172 goals scored editor’s note), lists Grizi. I have records in mind and I can’t wait to get there. Before, I saw it as a long road, but now it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
End of career at Atletico before MLS?
After a disappointing spell at FC Barcelona, Griezmann assures that a departure from Madrid is not on the agenda, even if MLS is still in the back of his mind: “I always said I wanted to play in MLS, but in Europe I did everything to come back here and be accepted. I did everything to enjoy this club. There is no better club and there is no place where I feel happier.”
This Sunday, the French international has the opportunity to make an impression at Camp Nou against his former team. Current 3rd in La Liga, the Colchoneros are almost guaranteed to participate in the next Champions League.
