Ajla Tomljanovic has had a surgery on her knee

Ajla Tomljanovic has had a successful minor procedure on her knee after withdrawing from the Australian Open and she is hoping to return to court fully healthy in a couple of months.

Tomljanovic, 29, was scheduled to kick off her 2023 season by representing Australia at the United Cup but a knee injury forced her to skip the event.

Also, Tomljanovic was forced to miss the Australian Open.

“Update. This morning I had a minor procedure done on my knee that went very well. Sadly I won’t be around the next few months, but I’m happy I did the necessary steps to get fully healthy. Great things take time and rehab starts very soon! I can’t wait to get back out there. Appreciate all your sweet messages and words of support, doesn’t go unnoticed,” Tomljanovic wrote in a message posted on her Twitter.

Tomljanovic was devastated after missing the Australian Open

Tomljanovic, ranked at No 35 in the world, badly wanted to compete in front of her home fans at the Australian Open but she didn’t recover in time for the tournament.

In her retirement announcement, Tomljanovic admitted that it was painful to announce such news.

“It absolutely pains me to have to write this message but unfortunately I won’t be able to compete at this year’s Australian Open. I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get healthy but just ran out of time to heal and be 100 per cent ready to compete at a high level. It’s been a very tough decision to make but I have to listen to my body,” Tomljanovic announced just two days before the start of the Australian Open.

In December, Ashleigh Barty spoke extremely highly of Tomljanovic and mentioned the 29-year-old as one of the dark horses for the Australian Open.

Unfortunately, Tomljanovic didn’t get a chance to compete at the Australian Open but hopefully she will return to Melbourne Park next year.
