AEW Dynamite Results 5/20/2020

The road to AEW Double Or Nothing 2 winds down this evening, as the pay-per-view “go-home” edition of AEW Dynamite takes place tonight at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Scheduled for the final AEW on TNT broadcast heading into the AEW Double Or Nothing 2020 PPV is “BROKEN” Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara, Jon Moxley vs. Dark Order #10, MJF vs. Marko Stunt, Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fenix and Nyla Rose & Britt Baker vs. Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander.

Also on tap for tonight’s AEW Dynamite show is a face-to-face interview with two legends, as Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Arn Anderson are also scheduled for a featured segment.

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS (5/20/2020)

This week’s show kicks off with a professionally narrated opener that promotes the final action before Double Or Nothing wrapping up tonight.

From there, we shoot live outside Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL. where we see The Inner Circle arriving on a tour bus together and they tell the AEW broadcast member on hand that if people thought what they did to Vanguard last week was something, wait until people see what they do to The Elite tonight.

The regular opening video package airs and then we shoot live inside the venue where Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone and The Excalibur welcome us to the show and run down the lineup scheduled for in-ring action.

“The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee Addresses Viewing Audience

Accompanied by “The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee, 10 of The Dark Order makes his way down to the ring, along with the rest of the crew. Brodie takes a moment of time to address the viewers at home — his eyes to ours.

He yells at some hecklers and tells 10 to take a proper knee next to him while he speaks. He talks about being how some may assume a supreme athlete that can’t relate to us at home. He says that’s where people are wrong. He is no God, as much as that may be hard to fathom, he says. He is merely a Man.

He says he operates at a higher level — an Elite level. He says they are the lions of AEW and the results speak for themselves. He says come Saturday, he has to win to pay off the loyalty and love of his men. He tells 10 he always knew he was special. He says he picked him and now it is his moment to shine. He refers to him as a Dark Knight of The Dark Order and tells him to rise and go hurt Jon Moxley for him.

10 vs. Jon Moxley

He heads to the ring, and the music of AEW World’s Heavyweight Champion plays as Jon Moxley makes his way down to the ring.

The bell sounds and immediately Moxley runs at 10 with intensity, taking it to the masked member of The Dark Order with tenacity, looking to send a message to Mr. Brodie Lee ahead of their showdown this weekend at Double Or Nothing.

Moxley domiates the action with his strikes until bickering with referee Aubrey Edwards, which allowed 10 to recover and blast the champion from behind with a big forearm to the back of the head. Moxley takes over the offense again moments later.

Now we see Moxley hit a beautiful piledriver in the middle of the ring. He looks around for Mr. Brodie Lee, shouting “Where’s my property?!” He also yells something about 10 supposedly being his special boy, and then he hits his Paradigm Shift on the special fella to score the 1-2-3.

After The Match: The Champ Snaps … 10’s Arm

After the match, Moxley is still enraged about his stolen AEW World’s Heavyweight Championship .. so he yanks off the arm band off of 10’s arm and places it inside a steel chair.

Moxley gets on the mic and says he’s got 10 seconds to save 10. He tells him to come out and correct his mistake or he’s gonna break his arm. He starts his count.

Finally we hear Lee backstage cutting him off. He says Moxley doesn’t call the shots. He’s made his bed and now he’s got to lie in it. He tells Moxley if he wanted his title back, all he had to do was ask — the same way Moxley reacted when Lee attacked him to put himself in title position.

He goes on to talk about making sacrifices and because of that, he’s leaving for the night. He walks off with Moxley’s title. Moxley says “Okay, see you Saturday.” He snaps 10’s arm as promised. His music plays and he heads to the back.

MJF vs. Marko Stunt

MJF makes his way down to the ring, as he will be in action next on this week’s show. As he continues his entrance, we head to a commercial break. Maxwell Jacob Friedman is up next.

We’re back from the break and while MJF is seated on the top turnbuckle in the corner waiting, the ring announcer introduces Marko Stunt of Jurassic Express. Mr Fun-Sized makes his way out to the ring and our second match of the evening is about to get underway.

As the bell sounds to kick this one off, it isn’t long before MJF establishes dominance over the smaller foe, knocking him down and in arrogant, slow, punishing fashion, is taking it to him with bearhugs and an assortment of strikes. Marko speeds the pace up, hitting the ropes and executing a sunset flip before MJF hoists him up with ease and takes back over.

Jim Ross on commentary mentions the tragic passing of former WWE Superstar Shad Gaspard. He puts over the late pro wrestling veteran while the action continues in the ring with MJF still in control. MJF is now mocking Marko as he controls the flow of the contest. Stunt shows signs of life, but MJF turns him inside-out with a clothesline and fires up with punches after getting embarrassed.

Moments later, however, again Stunt shows signs of life by beginning an offensive comeback with a flurry of punches and repeated drop-kicks. He hits a jumping knee-strike after springing up from the mat with enthusiasm. A low-bridge sends MJF to the floor and now Stunt baseball slides out after him, chucking him into the ring steps. He rolls in the ring, charges at the ropes with intentions of coming out to MJF on the floor again, however this time Friedman had him scouted. He catches him coming out and seconds later, locks him in a Fujiwara Armbar for the submission victory.

Winner: MJF

After The Match: MJF Adds Insult To Injury

Once the match was over and the victory was in the books, MJF decided to add insult to injury. After mocking Stunt and joking about how he considered having one of his “Jacksonville rats” kiss him as a consolation prize.

From there, MJF and Wardlow, like bullies, attack Stunt again. This brings out the other members of Jurassic Express — Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy — to run off the dastardly villains.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts & Arn Anderson Face-To-Face

As advertised, it’s time for the face-to-face segment involving Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Arn Anderson — the representitives of “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer and “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes — the two men who will battle to decide who Mike Tyson straps the first-ever TNT Championship on at Double Or Nothing this Saturday night.

J.R. reminds the viewing audience at home of the stakes of the Lance Archer-Cody bout and how Jake and Arn tie into things before taking us to a commercial break as Jake Roberts makes his ring entrance. We return and “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson makes his way down to the ring.

Jake starts things off by talking about how Cody isn’t going to have to figure out any puzzles or anything, he’ll just have to face reality this Saturday — Lance Archer. And the reality is, Lance Archer is a mean bad ass who is going to punish “The American Nightmare.” Jake also pokes fun at Arn for looking a tad overweight these days.

Arn then takes to the mic and talks about how Jake’s whole snake gimmick was a distraction designed to play mental games with his opposition. Jake interrupts him, and the two jaw at each other briefly about potentially exchanging in fisticuffs themselves.

Arn talks about Mike Tyson coming out of retirement to crown the winner between Cody and Lance the TNT Champion. Jake talks about how “The Murderhawk Monster” might knock out “Iron” Mike as well. Arn goes on to say “since the snake is out of the bag” and jokes about how he didn’t intend to make a pun. Oh Double A!

Arn then sarcastically brings up Jake doing DDP Yoga and says he better strengthen up his back because when he spinebuster’s him to hell at Double Or Nothing, he’s gonna need it. Jake knocks the table away and stands up pissed off. He exits the ring as Arn stands up, too. They stare each other down as the show moves on to the next segment.

Darby Allin & PAC Vignettes

Before heading to a commercial break, we see the latest Darby Allin vignette. It’s the usual black-and-white music video style segment with no words, just music and cool imagery as his rivalry is promoted in unique fashion.

We’re back from the break and PAC is shown in a vignette stuck in quarantine, wearing a face mask at points and other points not wearing one. He addresses Orange Cassidy while wearing a suit and as the video has some quick-choppy cuts, we see glimpses of PAC in his ring gear.

Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fenix

We head back into the arena after the PAC vignette. The Best Friends music plays as Orange Cassidy makes his way out. As he continues his ring entrance, Rey Fenix goes flying by with a soaring ninja kick that misses. Orange keeps walking to the ring like nothing happened as the announcers address Fenix trying to take Orange out again.

The bell sounds and with both guys in the ring the action gets underway. Early on, Orange, with no facial expression, avoids all of Fenix’s run-around offense style, closing with his hands in his pockets and a carefree look on his face.

Now the action really gets going and Orange is forced to take it a bit more serious. Even still, he’s doing well and having his moments, however not before Fenix eventually takes over and begins a lengthy run of offensive dominance as J.R. takes us to a mid-match commercial break.

We’re back and we see a replay of Cassidy bouncing off the AEW camera man at ringside as Fenix baseball slide kicks him to the floor during commercial break action. Meanwhile live action resumes with Cassidy taking over, blasting Fenix with rapid-fast palm strikes before capping off the flurry with a rising strike.

A tope suicida to the floor is quickly followed by Orange following Fenix in and coming off the top rope onto him. He spins around the world, gliding around Fenix’s body with a unique DDT. Now Orange is blasted by a big rising uppercut from Fenix. Orange ends up recovering and hitting a diving DDT as he comes flying off the top-rope. Great near fall pin attempt after that as replays are shown immediately afterwards.

Now both guys climb to the top rope and Orange puts his hands in his pockets and headbutts Fenix. Fenix shakes it off and powerbombs Orange off the top for another close near fall spot. He sets Orange on the top and takes him off for the Muscle Buster but Orange counters it for a near fall of his own.

Now we see Kip Sabian bringing a ladder down to ringside as The Excalibur points out he is one of the Casino Ladder Match participants this Saturday at Double Or Nothing. The distraction leads to Fenix hitting a low-blow leading to the pin fall victory.

After The Match: Casino Ladder Match Brawl Breaks Out

Once the match wraps up, SCU — Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky and Christopher Daniels come out and knock the ladder over that Sabian is sitting on.

Out comes some more Casino Ladder Match participants leading to a big spot with Fenix landing awkwardly.

Now Colt Cabana comes out for a follow-up high spot. Now Orange Cassidy is launched by The Best Friends out to the pile of wrestlers on the floor.

The Best Friends and Orange Cassidy go and pose on the ladder as the camera pans over to the pile of bodies laid out on the floor outside the ring. J.R. takes us to a commercial break.

Kris Statlander & Hikaru Shida vs. Britt Baker & Nyla Rose

Kris Statlander makes her way out, giving boots to those at ringside, which Tony Schiavone explains is her alien-greeting. Out next is her tag-team partner for this AEW women’s tag-team bout — the number one contender in the AEW women’s division for the past 12 weeks — Hikaru Shida.

After highlights are shown of last week’s four-way number one contender’s match, setting up Nyla Rose’s opponent for Double Or Nothing this Saturday, out comes Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D., complete with pyro and all for her ring entrance. Her tag-team partner for this match, the AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose.

Before things are even made official, the team of Shida and Statlander jump off to an early lead over the duo of the AEW Women’s Champion and the heel dentist Isaac … whoops, Britt Baker. The bell DOES sound now to officially kick off this match and within seconds, the AEW Women’s Champion takes over the offense in the ring, brutalizing Statlander with a slow, methodic beat-down.

J.R. takes us to a mid-match split-screen commercial break as the action continues. We return and see the heel duo is still in control. A big bomb in the corner spot with all four ladies happens, which seems to result in Britt Baker banging up her right knee.

Meanwhile the action resumes in the ring with Nyla in control as she has been throughout much of the match. Shida finally gets the hot tag for the baby face duo and hits a nice missile dropkick and running knee strike before Nyla Rose turns the tables back in her favor, setting the table for a real post-match table spot.

After a Nyla-Bomb finishes off the AEW women’s number one contender, the AEW Women’s Champion scores the pin, picking up the win for her team. After the match, she grabs a table from under the ring and sets it up inside the middle of the ring. As she goes to the top, Statlander grabs her from behind, setting up Shida leaping up and suplexing Rose down to and through the table set up below.

Jon Moxley’s Message To Mr. Brodie Lee

The beltless AEW World Heavyweight Champion is backstage for an interview segment. Jon Moxley addresses The Dark Order’s “Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee, talking about how things always eventually escalate to violence.

He gives a bunch of typical examples before concluding by bringing up snapping 10’s arm at the start of the show.

Mox finishes the segment overall by vowing to recapture his property, the AEW World’s Heavyweight Championship, while leaving Mr. Brodie Lee a beaten man with only his cronies in gimp masks to console him. He says it was nice knowing him and walks off as we head to another commercial break.

SSN Breaking News — AEW Chairman Challenges Dustin Rhodes

In a faux CNN news segment dubbed “SSN” for Social Security …whoops, I mean Shawn Spears News, “The Chairman of AEW” mocks and taunts Dustin Rhodes for his retirement before talking about the real travesty being the fact that he doesn’t have a match at this Saturday’s AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view.

He says maybe that is because he needs to go into business for himself. He says he challenges Dustin Rhodes. He says now people expect this match so AEW has to book, promote and deliver this match. He says oh and if we’re looking for Dustin, we can find him at our local museum.

New Double Or Nothing & Upcoming Dynamite Announcements

We shoot back live into Daily’s Place with the announce trio addressing the Shawn Spears segment before confirming Spears-Dustin for Double Or Nothing and running down the lineup for the rest of Saturday night’s PPV.

They also announce a big battle royal for next week’s Dynamite, with the winner moving on to face the TNT Champion — whomever emerges between Cody and Lance Archer at Double Or Nothing — on the 6/3 episode of Dynamite.

Sammy Guevara vs. “BROKEN” Matt Hardy

A video package airs with “BROKEN” Matt Hardy and “The Spanish God” Sammy Guevara commenting on things that went down last week as highlights are shown in between their straight-to-camera “talking heads” clips.

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite main event is up next, as “BROKEN” Matt Hardy makes his AEW Dynamite singles match in-ring debut against The Inner Circle’s own Sammy Guevara. With that said, Guevara’s music plays and he is introduced as he begins his walk to the ring. On that note, we head to a commercial break. Our main event is up next.

We return from the break and “BROKEN” Matt Hardy’s music plays and he comes out chanting “DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!” As soon as he enters the ring the bell sounds and he takes his jacket off and the action immediately gets underway.

Hardy jumps off to an early offensive lead in the match, taking it to Guevara and mumbling at him as he does so. The action quickly is taken outside the ring, with Hardy launching Guevara out to the floor and following him out to deliver additional punishment, smashing him into the barricade and ring steps arm-first.

Now Hardy repeatedly slams Guevara’s arm on the ring apron before making him squeel for his close-up on-camera as his face is smooshed into the steel ring post. Hardy continues to dominate the offense, whipping Guevara into the steel guard rail across the other side of the ring on the floor.

Back in the ring and Guevara avoids a Twist of Fate attempt by Hardy, countering it with a big kick to the head. Guevara gets up finally and goes over and starts flurrying with punches on a still grounded “BROKEN” one. Now “The Spanish God” takes it to Hardy in the corner, mocking his pre-finisher “HUH?!!” hand-raising crowd-call before leaping into the ring — right into a big shot from “BROKEN” Matt.

Hardy hoists Guevara up for the Murderhawk Monster’s finisher, however before gimmick infringement can formally be committed, “The Spanish God” escapes and sets up a big twisting dive onto the “BROKEN” one on the floor. Afterwards, J.R. takes us to a split-screen, mid-match commercial break. This week’s AEW Dynamite main event wraps up as the AEW Double Or Nothing 2 “go-home” show concludes after our final break of the evening.

We see Guevara missing a standing back-flip onto Hardy in the ring, leading to a comeback from Hardy, including a Side Effect for a near fall. Guevara takes back over the offensive momentum briefly, only for Hardy to blast him with a Twist of Fate out of nowhere. Guevara rolls out to the floor so Hardy can’t capitalize by pinning him right away. Hardy goes out and rolls Guevara in and covers him, but only gets two. Guevara blasts Hardy with a big kick to the grill just as Hardy was setting up something.

Guevara follows up with another big kick for a near fall on Hardy. Guevrara drags Hardy over a bit before climbing to the top rope. He goes for his shooting star press, but Hardy moves and Guevara lands on his feet and hops-and-rolls … right into a Twist of Fate from Hardy. On the cover, 1-2… Guevara somehow kicks it before the referee can slap the mat a third time. An audible “This is Awesome!” chant breaks out from the smattering of bodies serving as the crowd. Now Hardy takes Guevara’s boot off and bites his toe — the metatarcel has been munched on, as J.R. expertly narrates.

Guevara recovers and makes a comeback with one boot on. He leap-frogs off the ropes for a flying-cutter on Hardy that the “BROKEN” one somehow kicked out of. Guevara goes right back up for another shooting star press. This time Hardy gets the knees up. Hardy rolls him over and covers him but only got two again. Hardy immediately follows up with a Twist of Fate. 1-2-3. “BROKEN” Matt Hardy wins his AEW Dynamite singles match debut here on the AEW Double Or Nothing 2 “go-home” show.

After The Match: Stadium Stampede Preview Closes Out PPV “Go-Home” Show

After the match, Hardy grabs a chair and heads to the ring to deliver more damage to Guevara. He is cut off, however, by Jericho and the Inner Circle who appear on the big screen. After some audio issues, we hear Jericho talk about following up the gang beat down on Vanguard 1 with a more brutal one on Kenny Omega, who they show on camera at the mercy of the Inner Circle, sending them to the Stadium Stampede this Saturday one man down from the very beginning.

Now as they go to attack Omega, we see The Young Bucks — Nick and Matt Jackson — flying out of the rafters of the football field in the stadium where the battle will go down, taking out several members of the Inner Circle. As the brawl continues, finally we see “Hangman” Adam Page come out of nowhere to help the team of The Elite. “BROKEN” Matt Hardy also arrives on the scene. The two sides separate and we see The Elite with “BROKEN” Matt Hardy on one side and The Inner Circle on the other. Tony Schiavone commends Hangman for standing on the side of The Elite after all these months. Just after he says that, “Hangman” walks off on his own while The Elite yell “come on Page.” The Elite theme music plays as the camera shot backs out and up, showing The Elite logo being shown in the football stadium in Jacksonville while the members of the group pose near the field goal posts. J.R thanks us for watching and tells us he’ll see us this Saturday at AEW Double Or Nothing 2.
