450 QUALIFYING RESULTS // 2023 ANAHEIM 2 SUPERCROSS

The 2023 Anaheim 2 Supercross is officially here and we are excited for some close racing with the Triple Crown format for tonight. So far, the 450SX class has been an Eli Tomac show at Anaheim 1 and San Diego, but Cooper Webb is doing his best to challenge the defending Champion and he’s started the new season off on the right foot with two second place finishes in the Main Events.

The track layout for the A2 Supercross is unique with a lot of flat straightaways and a very long start that crosses over (and under) four lanes of the track, twice! Yep, you read that right. The start is very unique and we are hoping nobody goes down on the start because that will make things dangerous when the lead riders come around on the first lap.

450 GROUP A QUALIFYING RESULTS (SESSION 1 OF 2)

Chase Sexton and the HRC Honda team are running all white plastics this weekend, matching the special edition Honda CRF110 and CRF50 trail bikes. 

The track is a little bit easier at Anaheim 2 than we are used to seeing for Monster Energy Supercross. Cooper Webb mentioned it in an interview we did with him yesterday, that the track is faster and not as technical as usual. This will equate to closer lap times in qualifying and less separation between the front runners and the rest of the pack.

Halfway through the first 450SX qualifying session it was Chase Sexton with the quickest time. He was also the only  rider in the 58-second range, too. Eli Tomac was second with Ken Roczen third on his Suzuki. Chase Sexton also had a small crash where he slid out exiting the first bowl turn after crossing the start, but he picked his bike up quickly and remounted to try for another fast lap.

With two-minutes to go, Jason Anderson dropped into the 58 range with a 58.8, but Chase Sexton’s fast lap also dropped his time. Justin Barcia went down hard in the rhythm lane along the first base line and he got a foot peg to his butt. He kept holding his hand on his back side and looking at it, checking for blood, but he never saw any and continued his practice. On the last lap, Cooper Webb improved his time, taking him from fifth to fourth quickest.
